information about the new color medium aquarylic color
What are Aquarylic Colors?
Aquarylic Colors are a new type of paint medium that combines transparency and luminosity in a unique way. The special transparency of Aquarylic Colors allows works of art to be built up in layers, creating impressive depth and vibrancy. Despite their transparency, the colors retain an intense luminosity and color intensity, which is enhanced by a slight sheen. When used as a glaze, the colors take on a watercolor character and follow the water, but dry to become waterproof. In their pure state, they are ideal for combining with traditional oil paint, whether for the wet-on-wet technique or on already dried oil paint. Aquarylic Colors adhere to a variety of surfaces such as canvas, paper, wood, metal and glass, opening up completely new possibilities for artistic expression.
Which binding agent is used for Aquarylic Color?
Aquarylic Color uses a specially formulated binder that provides a unique blend of properties, including the ability to blend perfectly with other color mediums such as acrylic, watercolor and oil paints.
What is the difference between Aquarylic Colors and acrylic paints and between Aquarylic Colors and watercolor paints?
Compared to acrylic paints, Aquarylic Colors are more fluid, dry glossy or satin-matt and retain their luminosity without darkening significantly when drying. Watercolour paints, on the other hand, remain water-soluble after drying, while Aquarylic Colors form a waterproof layer. In addition, Aquarylic Colors offer exceptional colour intensity, even when applied as a glaze.
Is Aquarylic Color water-based?
Yes, Aquarylic Color is water-based. This allows for easy dilution with water and versatile application.
Can you really mix Aquarylic Colors with oil paints?
Yes, Aquarylic Colors can be mixed with oil paints, resulting in unique effects. It is important to note that this does not produce a 100% homogeneous mass due to the different viscosities. In contrast to pure oil paints, Aquarylic Colors dry faster, which is ideal for artists who value quick drying and high mixability. Aquarylic Colors also offer a low viscosity, which supports smooth transitions in sfumato techniques.
Are the paints chemically the same as water-soluble oil paints?
No, Aquarylic Colors are not chemically comparable to water-soluble oil paints. They represent a new color medium that offers unique application possibilities.
Can Aquarylic Colors be diluted with water or alcohol?
Yes, Aquarylic Colors can be diluted with both water and alcohol. This flexibility allows for a variety of effects, from translucent to opaque.
Can Aquarylic Color be mixed with epoxy resin?
Yes, Aquarylic Color can be used with epoxy resin to create impressive effects.
Are the colors also suitable for airbrushing?
Yes, Aquarylic Colors are suitable for airbrushing. If you have a medium needle, you can use the color undiluted. If you have a thinner needle, we recommend diluting the colors slightly.
Despite the liquid consistency, can the paints also be used for dot painting?
Yes, Aquarylic Colors are also suitable for dot painting. However, due to the liquid consistency, it may take some practice to control the colors precisely.
Is it normal for the pigment in the Aquarylic Color bottle to settle after a short time?
Yes, due to the high pigment density, the pigment may settle. Shake vigorously before use to ensure that the pigments are evenly distributed.

Are the colors RGB or CMY systematic so that I could create a color wheel myself?
You can use both the RGB and CMY systems for Aquarylic Colors and acrylic paints to create a color wheel. Our primary colors are pure single-pigment tones and therefore offer brilliant, vibrant results.
The RGB primary colors are signal red, permanent yellow and ultramarine.
The CMY primary colors are phthalo blue cyan, quinacridone magenta and lemon yellow.
What is the difference between your acrylic paint and acrylic paints from other manufacturers?
Our acrylic paints are particularly highly pigmented and are ideal for glazing techniques. Unlike many studio-quality paints, our artist-quality acrylic paints offer exceptional color strength and brilliance, achieved through the use of high-quality binders and lightfast pigments. These properties are indicated on each container to ensure that you always achieve the best possible result.
What is chalk paint used for?
Chalk paints are used on various surfaces, particularly canvas or wood. When used pure, all colors are opaque and dry matt. Powdery effects can be achieved by diluting with water. On wood, chalk paints are particularly suitable for painting furniture, whether for a shabby chic look or for a matt, opaque surface. We recommend sealing the pieces of furniture after painting. Chalk paints are also one of the few paint media that are ideal for the encaustic technique.
How do Aquarylic Color, acrylic paint and chalk paint differ in their appearance?
When used neat, Aquarylic Colors dry with a beautiful, light sheen. When used as a glaze, they produce a satin finish. Our acrylic paints also have a satin finish, while the chalk paints leave a matte, powdery surface.
How high is the opacity of the respective colors?
The opacity varies depending on the color medium and color tone. You can find detailed information on this on our website under the respective colors.
Are the colors vegan?
Yes, all Aquarylic Colors shades are vegan and do not contain any animal pigments.
Can the colors be used for pouring? Do the colors need to be diluted with water or is pouring medium with color enough?
Yes, both Aquarylic Colors and acrylic paints are ideal for pouring. However, if you prefer classic effects with large cells, you should opt for acrylic paint.
Aquarylic Colors have a lower viscosity, so it is usually sufficient to mix them directly with Pouring Medium without additional water dilution. The acrylic colors must be diluted with water.
Which colors are suitable for use in encaustic?
Our chalk paints are among the few paint media that are ideally suited for encaustic and are valued by renowned artists in this technique.
Acrylic paints and aquarylic colors, on the other hand, are not suitable for use in encaustic.
