Liquid iron

Flüssigeisen
With liquid iron , you can easily create lively rust surfaces. These surfaces can either be accents in the picture or you can integrate the rust surface like a color surface.

application with brush or spatula

The liquid iron can be applied directly to the canvas or other surfaces with a brush or spatula. Either pure or diluted with a little water. The advantage is that it does not have to be oxidized immediately. You can let your surface dry completely and oxidize it at any time. To do this, fill our oxidizing agent into a spray bottle and spray the iron surface evenly. The oxidation process begins after about 2 hours. This process can be repeated as often as you like. Even the iron surface that is still completely dry can be oxidized immediately.

filled rust areas

Dilute the liquid iron 1:1 with water in a container and stir the mixture carefully with a brush. Pour this mixture onto your canvas and let it dry completely. Then oxidize the dried surface as usual with the oxidizing agent.

How does the rust surface behave when it is painted over?

Rusty surfaces always show through after a coat of paint. This can produce very beautiful colors. When white chalk paint is applied, it changes color to an earthy brown color. The liquid iron and the iron filings in combination are therefore very popular with our chalk paint and all other colors .

Materials used:

White chalk paint , liquid iron , iron filings , acrylic glue , oxidizing agent

Apply the liquid iron (brush or pour) and let it dry well. The iron filings must be sieved onto a binding agent. This can be either white chalk paint or an acrylic binder. Allow the surfaces to dry repeatedly and then allow them to oxidize. Then brush or pour the white chalk paint over it. Spraying with water from the spray bottle creates the beautiful rivulets.

You can also make great collage papers with our iron materials . Collages can then be deliberately placed on the artwork.
